The Ten Acre Villagers thought it was important to join in #CoeliacAwarenessWeek
If you didn’t already know, Coeliac (pronounced Cee-Lee-Ack) disease is a common digestive and auto-immune condition, caused by an adverse reaction to gluten (a type of protein found in cereals such as barley, rye and wheat).
Gluten is found in every day products like bread, cereal and pasta, but it’s regularly used as an ingredient in a whole host of food and drink products. Often used to ‘coat’ or thicken products, items including sauces, snacks (including crisps!), frozen potato products, soups can sometimes contain gluten.
Living with Coeliac Disease can be challenging, especially when on the go or eating out with friends. Coeliac Awareness Week (running 8th – 14th May 2017) raises awareness about Coeliac Disease and this years focus is all about eating out or grabbing something quick on the move.
It’s important that people understand about catering for those with Coeliac Disease, and the the Ten Acre Villagers couldn’t agree more (we even have a resident Coeliac in Ten Acre Village!)
